We
lost the other two sick boys today. As the rest of the goats began
developing symptoms I was increasingly suspicious of a gut parasite
infection called coccidiosis. A few hours after wrestling two full size
goats and three kids with horns to force feed antibiotics and
electrolytes they are already looking better. The infection is also
known as "the silent kid killer." Strangely, it does make me feel better
since that means I didn't miss signs over several days. This infection
can kill in 24 hours.
